
Tourmaline is a mineral of variable color that consists of a complex borosilicate and is valued as a gem when transparent and cut.
The name tourmaline comes from ancient Sinhalese culture, where words like “turamali” and “turmali” were used to describe various small and colorful gemstones.
The term means “something small from the earth” and “mixed color precious stone”. Tourmaline is a group of 11 borosilicate minerals, and its three main varieties are Schorl (black), Dravite (brown, yellow and green) and Elbaite (all colors)
