Emergency Hormonal Contraception
Emergency Hormonal Contraception aka the morning after pill, can help prevent unwanted pregnancy within the 5 days of intercourse. If you have had unprotected sex or if there has been a possibility that your method of contraception has failed, we offer the morning after pill to help prevent pregnancy.
How does the morning after pill work?
When other forms of contraception have failed, such as condoms splitting or forgetting to take your contraceptive pill, the morning after pill can help. It works by delaying the release of eggs during the ovulation phase of your menstrual cycle. Rising levels of Lutenising Hormone trigger ovulation. The higher the levels, the less likely the morning after pill will protect you. Therefore, the sooner you take it, preferably on the same day, the more effective the pill will be.
If you have had unprotected sex or there is a possibility that your contraception may have failed, it may be appropriate for the pharmacist to offer you Levonorgestrel or EllaOne as emergency contraception also known as “the morning after pill”.
We ensure a hassle free service to all our patients.
Please note that our pharmacist will need to speak to the person for whom the pill is for and will need to ask a few questions regarding the patients' medical history. This is done in our consultation room. Everything discussed is in complete confidence therefore you can feel completely comfortable & safe when using this service.

Common side effects can include :
• irregular bleeding or changes to your next period
• nausea
• headaches
• abdominal pain
You can get the emergency contraceptive pill in advance of having unprotected sex if you're going on holiday or if you can't get hold of emergency contraception easily.
Please note that the morning after pill cannot protect you against sexually transmitted infections or diseases. It also doesn't prevent future pregnancies of you have unprotected intercourse again. Practicing safe sex prevents you from catching & spreading STIs & it is highly recommended to use condoms alongside a different form of birth control, such as the contraceptive pill or IUD.
If you need the morning after pill then please book an appointment with us and speak to a member of our team today. We are here to support you, always.
