Sinusitis Treatment

Sinusitis is a common condition which usually clears on its own.

Medicines can help if symptoms are severe or are taking a long time to go away.

Sinusitis is inflammation and swelling of the sinus lining which can cause:

  • pain, swelling and tenderness around your cheeks, eyes or forehead
  • a blocked nose
  • a reduced sense of smell
  • green or yellow mucus from your nose
  • a sinus headache
  • a high temperature
  • toothache
  • bad breath

Sinusitis treatment at Palmers Pharmacy
From 31st January, pharmacists are able to provide patients (12 years and over) with sinusitis treatment on the NHS.

The new NHS Pharmacy First service allows pharmacists to provide treatment for seven common health conditions, without the need for a GP appointment. The Pharmacy First service will be available here at our pharmacy.

Sinusitis can vary and the best course of treatment will depend on the individual person and symptoms. Symptoms of mild sinusitis can often be treated at home by:

  • getting plenty of rest
  • drinking plenty of fluids
  • taking painkillers, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen (do not give aspirin to children under 16)
  • avoiding allergic triggers and not smoking
  • cleaning your nose with a salt water solution to ease congestion

If you are experiencing symptoms of sinusitis, you can call or visit our pharmacy for advice. No appointment necessary.
